I have been traveling for work between 25 and 50 weeks a year for almost 15 years now. On every trip, I carry my trusty laptop. I am on laptop number 8 now as I get them replaced frequently. In the weeks that I am not working onsite at a client, I work at home. While I have a powerful laptop, when working at home I enjoy working on my supercharged, duel monitor desktop.
This can cause data synchronization issues between my laptop and desktop. Luckily technology has improved greatly over the years to provide several options to solve this problem. Lets take a deeper look into the two ways I overcome laptop and desktop synchronization issues.
Cloud-based shared storage is the “it” thing these days. Services like Dropbox, Google Drive, Box, and Microsoft OneDrive (just to name a few) are springing up all over the place. They offer much more than just cloud storage, but really a whole cloud-based content management system with the ability for team collaboration with user’s permissions, direct download links, sharing large files that could not be sent via email, and more.
I use Dropbox for syncing smaller, more frequently used files like to-do lists. I also use Dropbox for sharing files with Pluralsight, the training company I contract with to produce online training courses like ““. With Dropbox, sharing large files with my editor is as easy as drag and drop into my Dropbox windows folder.

Data is stored in the cloud
