The following blog is an excerpt from my new book, "You're Hired" as noted below. If you are looking for employment, this book is highly recommenced.

As Albert Einstein is attributed to have said, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Don’t Send the Same Email the Second and Third Times

An initial email is best written in a conservative style without any Netiquette errors. If this approach does not achieve results, then a second or third message with some moderate adjustments is certainly in order.

During the first two to eight seconds of looking at an email, a reader decides if he or she has an interest in reading further. People initially look at/for the following:
1.    Subject line
2.    Page layout
3.    Keywords
4.    Salutation (when quickly scanning the email)
5.    Qualifications (when quickly scanning the email)
6.    Signature (when quickly scanning the email)
7.    Viewing pane of the first sentence or two of the message (if available)
Let’s assume you’ve passed the first phase and want to know what comes next. In the following twenty to fifty-five seconds, the recruiter/hiring manager looks for the following:
1.    Special qualifications
2.    Tone/politeness
3.    Readability
4.    Believability
5.    Clarity
6.    Whether you meet/exceed qualifications
7.    Weaknesses of any kind
8.    Possible contradictions in content
You passed again? You are now in the elite percentage of job applicants applying by email. Your attachment (résumé or CV) is opened. Going by the consistent assumption that your email will reach this stage, consider whether your content does the following:
1.    Does your content match your email description? Make sure your résumé or CV delivers accurate information.
2.    Do you include an easy means to contact you electronically or by phone?
3.    Are your messages or calls forwarded to an alternate means of contact, if he or she is unavailable? This is strongly desirable—there may be a one-time opportunity where a recruiter or hiring manager is looking to immediately fill a position or is impressed with your qualifications.
Using the following matrix, you’ll know when it is time to follow up. Once you make contact and the correspondence has begun, make sure you continue to use good Netiquette! If interviews are scheduled, send any emails that follow using all of the best Netiquette principles

virtual storage area network (VSAN)
The term virtual storage area network (VSAN) has two meanings:
1. A virtual SAN is a logical partition in a physical storage area network (SAN). VSANs allow traffic to be isolated within specific portions of a storage area network so that if a problem occurs in one logical partition, it can be handled with a minimum of disruption to the rest of the network. The use of multiple, isolated VSANs can also make a storage system easier to configure and scale out. Subscribers can be added or relocated without the need for changing the physical layout.

2. A virtual SAN is an appliance that allows unused storage capacity on virtual servers to be pooled and accessed by virtual servers as needed. A virtual SAN appliance is most often downloaded as a software program that runs on a virtual machine (VM), but some storage hardware vendors are beginning to incorporate virtual SAN appliances into their firmware. Depending on the vendor, a virtual SAN appliance might also be called a software-defined storage appliance or simply a virtual storage appliance.
The acronym for virtual SAN is spelled differently by different vendors. When spelled with all capital letters, the acronym is usually associated with Cisco Systems and is talked about in conjunction with zoning, which splits a physical SAN into multiple, isolated subnetworks. When spelled with a lower-case v, the acronym is usually associated with VMware and Hyper-V features that allow available hard disk drive storage to be pooled from across clustered hosts.

Updated September 28, 2017 From thoughtco.com

In English pronunciation, silent letter is an informal term for a letter of the alphabet (or a letter combination) that's usually left unpronounced, such as the b in subtle, the c in scissors, the g in design, the t in listen, and the gh in thought. Also called a dummy letter.
According to Ursula Dubosarsky, roughly "60 percent of words in English have a silent letter in them" (The Word Snoop, 2009).
Examples and Observations
  • The letter combination gh is silent in the following words: bought, caught, dough, eight, flight, high, right, sleigh, sigh, taught, thought.
  • Different Kinds of Silent Letters
Edward Carney, author of A Survey of English Spelling [see below; revised 2012], distinguishes two kinds of silent letters: auxiliary and dummy.
"Auxiliary letters are part of a group of letters that spell a sound that does not have a usual single letter to represent it. For example,
/th/ thing
/th/ there
/sh/ share
/zh/ treasure
/ng/ song
Dummy letters have two subgroups: inert letters and empty letters. Inert letters are letters that in a given word segment are sometimes heard and sometimes not heard. For example,
resign (g is not heard)
resignation (g is heard)
malign (g is not heard)
malignant (g is heard)
Empty letters are letters that do not have a function like auxiliary letters or inert letters. The letter u in the word gauge is empty. Here are some examples of silent consonants:
Silent b: dumb, thumb
Silent c: indict
Silent ch: yacht
Silent d: bridge, ledge, edge
Silent g: foreign, sign, design, assign
Silent h: rhinoceros, spaghetti
Silent k: knee, knit, knob, know, knuckle
Silent l: calf, talk, could, should, would
Silent m: mnemonic
Silent n: autumn, column
Silent p: raspberry, receipt
Silent t: castle, listen, whistle
Silent w: answer, wrap, wreath, wreck, wring, wrong, write
"There are no rules that we can apply to words with empty letters[;] you just have to use them and remember their spelling."
(Jeffrey Strausser and José Paniza, Painless English for Speakers of Other Languages. Barron's, 2007)
  • Silent Consonants
"Silent consonant letters constitute one of the problem areas in respect to pronunciation of English words. To solve some of the problems of the learners, a few spelling sequences containing silent letters are discussed below:
(i) b is always silent in the spelling sequences mb and bt occurring in the word-final position: comb, numb, bomb, limb, debt . . ..

(ii) d is always silent in the spelling sequence dj: adjective, adjunct, adjacent . . ..

(iii) g is silent in the spelling sequence gm or gn: phlegm, gnarl, champagne, sign, gnat, gnaw . . ..

(iv) h is silent in the spelling sequence gh and in the word-final position: ghost, ghetto, aghast, ghastly, ah, eh, oh.

(v) k is always silent in the word-initial spelling sequence kn: kneel, knee, knob, knight, knave, knowledge, knife, knock."
