Netiquette and 11 Core Subtle Influences of Your Email You Probably Do Not Know About -Via Netiquette IQ



During the 1950's and 1960's, both television and advertisers at movies utilized subliminal messaging which basically is the display of some suggestion that is not visible to the conscious mind but is read by the subconscious mind. This practice was made illegal in many countries but sometimes still does occur.

It recently occurred to me that we all undergo some distractions or influences we may never notice and that undermine more concrete Netiquette practices. The list below includes a few of these. Please feel free to comment or add more!

1.           Watching TV while emailing may distract you or cause you to make simple errors
2.           Certain music makes you feel stronger, more confident or bold
3.           You may say things in an email that you would not say in person or by voice mail
4.           Unintentional and subtle sarcasm might be invoked when you email to someone you are impatient with or do not respect
5.           Possibly, you answer what you consider to be a dumb or repetitive question more dismissively than normal
6.           You can ignore or delay a reply to someone for a longer period of time when they have caused you something unpleasant
7.           You procrastinate thanking or acknowledging to certain receipts of an email when you normally would
8.           You might include a Bcc: that compromises the addressee
9.           Your tone changes dramatically towards the sender when you do not receive a desired reply
10.        Your general attitude may change in some way to anyone after receiving an unwanted email
11.        You change vocabulary when writing emails, usually to impress
