Most of us make New Year resolutions and there are usually mixed results. Some people try to lose weight, others resolve to quit bad habits, increase fitness activity or give up certain things.
One really overlooked resolution is to commit to a better on-line presence and behavior. By doing this, one can enjoy some sort and long term benefits which I describe in my books, noted below. I have taken one appendix from both books which lists the ten core principals of on-line Netiquette and electronic communication.
Try to adapt these into your processes of email in particular. You should find that these are a simple, painless set of steps which are simple to keep, both now and long into the future!
The Ten Cardinal Principals Of Netiquette
- Never criticize others.
- Honor commitments made in writing.
- Be consistent in tone, content, and process.
- Always maintain civility and politeness.
- Apologize for and forgive harmless mistakes quickly without prejudice.
- Always know and practice that Netiquette is more than manners. It also rests on a foundation of veracity, character, and ethics.
- Do not take immediate exception to full factual knowledge.
- Do not assume situations.
- Never use bad language.
10. Be consistent with all positive practices of Netiquette.
